can't get past the boot up screen?

If startup never progresses beyond an Apple logo or progress bar please read below for some helpful advice!

For Mac:

  1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off.
Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.
  2. Turn your Mac back on.
  3. If the issue persists, press and hold the power button until your Mac turns off. Then unplug all nonessential accessories from your Mac, including printers, drives, and USB hubs. You could have an issue with one or more of those devices or their cables.
  4. Turn your Mac back on.
  5. If the issue persists, once again press and hold the power button until your Mac turns off.
  6. Repair your startup disk as described in How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility.
  7. If the issue persists, reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery.

For Ipad:

  1. If you see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen during startup, try these steps:

    1. Connect your iPad to a computer. On a Mac with macOS Catalina, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. Find out which macOS your Mac is using.
    2. Locate your device on your computer.
    3. While your device is connected, follow the steps for your device:
      • On your iPad without a Home button: Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button. Press and hold the top button until your device begins to restart. Keep holding the top button.
      • On your iPad with a Home button: Press and hold both the Home button and the top button. Keep holding the button (or buttons) until you see the recovery mode screen.
      • When you get the option to restore or update, choose Update.
Your computer will download the software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your iPad will exit recovery mode, and you'll need to repeat steps 2-4.

For Iphone:

  1. Make sure that the progress bar on your iPhone screen hasn't moved for at least one hour.
  2. If the progress bar hasn't moved for more than one hour, connect your device to a computer, then put your device into recovery mode with these steps:
    • iPhone 8 and later: Press and release the Volume Up button. Press and release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Side button. Keep holding the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Volume Down button and the Sleep/Wake button. Keep holding the Volume Down button until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • iPhone 6s and earlier: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button. Keep holding the Home button until you see the recovery mode screen.
  3. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. When asked to update or restore, choose Update. This will update your device to the latest version of iOS. If you choose Restore, it will erase your iPhone.
